Nocton Cricket Club - match report

Nocton win low scoring thriller

Sunday 28th June

Nocton (79 all out) beat Rustons (57 all out) by 22 runs

Nocton came out on top in a low scoring thriller this week, defeating Rustons to make it three wins in a row.

Rustons won the toss and chose to bowl, on a wicket that was more than a little spongy following the morning’s rain shower. The Rustons bowlers found the conditions to their liking, as Nocton found run scoring difficult. Mikey Atkinson made it to 20 before he was dismissed, a tally that was matched by the retuning Andy Bell, playing his first match in four years. Bell hit three fours and a six, and showed that his lack of recent cricket has done him no harm. Nocton were eventually dismissed for 79 in the 26th over, a score that the team knew was competitive.

After tea, Nocton seamers Atkinson and Dylan Garfoot were excellent, and were ably supported by the economical Miles Lynch. The team took regular wickets thanks to bowling full and straight on the helpful surface, and soon reduced Rustons to 32-9. Despite a last wicket partnership of 25, Rustons were eventually dismissed for 57, leaving Nocton victorious by 22 runs. Atkinson and Garfoot finished with five wickets each.

It is also an exciting time for the club off the field, as the new practice net is up and running, and practice will be every Tuesday evening from 6pm at the ground. We may be high in confidence but we are still low on numbers (this week’s win was with only nine men!), so if you would like to join the team, even if you have no experience, please come along. Players need to be at least 13 years old.

Contact club captain Matthew Stephens (07548 386387) if you would like any more information.
