Nocton Cricket Club - victory

Report from Sunday 7th June

Billingborough (77 all out) lost to Nocton (80-1) by nine wickets

Nocton achieved their first win of the season with an excellent performance at Billingborough.

Billingborough won the toss on what looked like a road of a wicket, and unsurprisingly decided to bat first. Dylan Garfoot took the new ball for Nocton, and after getting hit for some early boundaries, responded with three wickets in his third over. During his seven over spell his pace and hostility increased, and he was to finish with figures of 7-3-18-4. Garfoot ensured Billingborough were on the back foot early on, and he was well supported by overseas player Arry Khanna - making his final appearance of the season - who took three wickets with his wily left-arm swingers. One of his wickets was thanks to a superb catch by Miles Lynch at mid-on, to dismiss the dangerous home skipper Aaron Pullman. Paul Carrott and Chris Brogan also took wickets as the Billingborough innings ended after 27.2 overs with the score on 77.

After tea, Lynch joined Matthew Stephens in opening the batting. The pair gave the team a solid start with a partnership of 23, before Stephens was dismissed for 8. This brought Garfoot to the crease, who took the confidence gained from his bowling out to bat with him. Before long the game was over, as Garfoot smashed nine fours in a rapid 39 not out, while Lynch finished unbeaten on 24, as Nocton achieved a nine wicket victory in only 13.3 overs.

The next match is on Sunday 21st June as the team host Bracebridge Heath, looking to build on this impressive display.

A couple of photos which the observant will realise are NOT from the match in question although they are entirely relevant! Dylan Garfoot put in a superb all-round performance, 4-18 with the ball and 39* with the bat.
